Why we are switching to organic cotton (And why you should too!) - JON BLANCO

Why we are switching to organic cotton (And why you should too!)

We have begun to integrate organic cotton fabric into our clothing where possible. As of 2022, all of our new cotton hats are made with organic cotton. We believe this is a necessary step in building a more sustainable brand. Many people do not know, but organic cotton clothing is much better than traditional cotton clothing!

Organic cotton is a sustainable alternative to conventional cotton. It is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers or genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and is often considered a healthier option for both the environment and for the people who wear it.

Environmental friendliness is a key feature of organic cotton's many advantages. As one of the most heavily pesticided crops, conventional cotton is a major contributor to environmental degradation. Cotton fields are known for leaking pesticides into the groundwater and surrounding ecosystems, endangering human health and threatening wildlife habitats. When compared to conventional cotton, organic cotton is produced by environmentally friendly means, which includes crop rotation and composting. This not only serves to maintain the health of farmers and their communities, but it also lessens the environmental effect of cotton production.

Organic cotton is great since it is hypoallergenic. Common chemicals and pesticides used on conventional cotton may worsen skin disorders like eczema and asthma, as well as cause irritation and allergic responses. On the other hand, organic cotton is cultivated without the use of toxic pesticides and is thus a better choice for those with sensitive skin. Also, it's great for the health of infants and young children, who are especially susceptible to the effects of chemical exposure.

The use of organic cotton is a also a more ethical option, generally speaking. Conventional cotton is often farmed in third world nations where laws protecting workers' rights are not universally upheld. The result may be low salaries and unsafe circumstances for cotton producers. However, organic cotton is often farmed by local, independent farmers who get living salaries and operate in secure environments.

Also, because the fibers in organic cotton are longer and stronger, fabrics created from it are less prone to shrink, pill, or lose their original form. As a result, buying clothes made from organic cotton is a better financial decision for shoppers as well as healthier for the planet!

Next time you are looking for new clothing, consider choosing organic cotton. Not only will you be making a positive impact on the environment and local communities, but you will also be investing in a healthier and higher-quality product!
